If there were ever a social tsunami, last week it felt like that was it! By Sunday, I could not move and missed, for the first time, the delightful and always fun St. Catherine's Hat Day Parade. 

My exciting week started with my Round Table Luncheon Saluting the new authors and their recently released books.  It was held at  Antoine's and featured my darling friends, New Orleans authors Peggy Scott Laborde and  photographer Judi Bottoni with "New Orleans Mardi Gras Moments"; photographer Cheryl Gerber discussing “New Orleans: Life and Death in the Big Easy”; Kerri McCaffety discussing "New Orleans at Night"; author Poppy Tooker discussing "The Tujague's Cookbook: Creole Recipes and Lore in the Grand New Orleans Tradition”; and author John Pope discussing “Getting Off at Elysian Fields,” which is a collection of New Orleans people’s obituaries.Lovely photo by Frank Stansbury of the speakers and entertainers at the Round Table Luncheon saluting the New Orleans authors and their books.

Live entertainment was provided by pianist Jim Walpole and winner of Gambit's Best Actress in a Musical, Meredith Long. Judging by the positive comments that I received, everyone enjoyed the luncheon. Darlings, that evening I was invited  to attend a lovely soiree at the home of talented Colombia-born artists Gustavo Duque and Matilde Alberny in honor of the contributions to the Arts of Consul of Mexico, Hon.Ramon Gonzalez Jameson.

 followed by attending the lovely Downton Abbey Hat Sale at the exquisite home of Dana Hansel of beautiful hats by Hautes Dames. Darlings, we celebrated Beaujolais Nouveau Day in a very New Orleans Style. Much-anticipated Beaujolais Nouveau traveled down the Mississippi River and arrived in New Orleans, on the Creole Queen. It was transported in grand fashion by nostalgic horse and carriage. The French Consul of France Hon. Gregor Trumel and VIPs traveled by horse carriages to the JW Marriott where the 2015 French American Chamber of Commerce, Gulf Coast Chapter (FACC-GC) Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration was waiting. On Friday, I paid my last respects to our beloved Allen Toussaint at his moving and spectacular funeral service at the Orpheum. I paid my respect to his son Reggie who I’d gotten to know when I traveled with his father and his entourage to the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Switzerland.

I could not stay because I really wanted to see the performance of the Dance Theater of Harlem at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.  It loved the presentation and found to be very informative and entertaining. I was so proud of our local students that performed along the cast of the Dance Theater of Harlem. Congratulations.

That evening, after working at Casell-Bergen gallery, I was whisked away by limousine and a case of champagne to attend Louisiana Center for Women in Government & Business' 2015 Leadership Summit and Hall of Fame Luncheon at Thibodaux. I could not attend the luncheon but I was invited to attend the Patron Party honoring LCWGB Activists at the beautiful palatial home of Drs. Raja and Gayathri Talluri.

On Saturday, after work, I transformed myself into a Silver Diva to celebrate the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation's 25th Silver Jubilee of the Azucar Ball presented by Pan American Life Insurance at the Hyatt Regency. The annual New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation's Azucar Ball - 25th Silver Jubilee presented by Pan American Life Insurance was like in the past: It was spectacular. Congratulations to the co-chairs: Maricarmen Huelga Aldana, Elizabeth Dunn Bordes and Francesca Velasco. The Galvez Cup, the highest recognition awarded by the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation was presented to three talented artists: Nicaragua-born Mario Villa; Colombia-born metal sculptor Hernan Caro and Colombia-born Luis Colmenares. Congratulations. 

The entertainment at the Patrons Party was by members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gala by Carl Mack Presents, Julio and Cesar and AsheSon. Fortunately for me the victory party for my darling friend Billy Nungasser was at the Hyatt so I could attend his victory speech. Congratulation Billy- I think you will make a hard working Lieutenant Governor

I concluded my week by paying my last respects to my darling friend, Charlotte Bass Lilly, a longtime New Orleans animal welfare advocate and the executive director of Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO). May her soul RIP. 

This week is going to be a fun one that will start today, when I attend the annual Canal Street Lighting, sponsored by the Downtown Development District at the Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel. I am really looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with my brother and a few friends at Houma House Plantations and Gardens. I cannot wait and the weather is supposed to be very nice. 

 On  Sunday, November 29 @ 5 pm:  I m looking forward to attending the  Trinity Artist Series , when it will present my darling friend talented Dr.  Quinn Peeper, pianist and Albinas Prizgintas, organist performing Grieg Concerto for piano in A minor, Albinas will play the orchestra part

With LUNA representing “Light Up NOLA Arts,” LUNA Fête is the Arts Council’s experiential community-wide event that unfolds over the course of a week; we also will “shine a light” on the great work being done by our partners, peers, and friends.

 Each year, the Arts Council will grow the scope of its international partnerships with video-mapping practitioners                  and expand the number of installations we commission and produce in New Orleans, with the intention of                               stimulating cross-sector relationships and collaboration and connecting our community to a new form of contemporary practice.

There’s no place like New Orleans for the holidays during Christmas New Orleans Style, a celebration of uniquely New Orleans holiday activities taking place throughout December.

31st Annual Christmas New Orleans Style Event Overview Reveillon Feasts, Cathedral Concerts, Festive Events A season of cheer for visitors and locals alike! New Orleans - named a "World's Best City" by Travel + Leisure readers and one of The New York Times' "52 Places to Go in 2015" - will celebrate the holidays with over 70 special events, Reveillon feasts at the city's finest restaurants, and Papa Noël hotel deals for all budgets. French Quarter Festivals, Inc. (FQFI) proudly announces details of the 31st annual Christmas New Orleans Style (CNOS), where visitors and locals are invited to "follow their joy" throughout the entire month of December.   CNOS is a collaboration between FQFI and the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation (NOTMC). Throughout December, FQFI works closely with retailers, restaurants, hotels, arts, and community organizations to produce and promote quality holiday events; the economic impact has been tremendous for the city and state.  FQFI Executive Director Marci Schramm said, "Christmas New Orleans Style has helped the city establish itself as one of the world's top holiday destinations.  It truly is a showcase of the best New Orleans has to offer, beloved by locals and the many visitors who have made it an annual tradition. In 2015, we're especially excited to bring back holiday concerts to St. Augustine Church in Treme; after several years, it's wonderful to return to this historic neighborhood."   Christmas New Orleans Style 2015 kicks off with three events on Thursday, November 19th: the first concert of the St. Louis Cathedral series (Dillard University Choir), French Market District tree lighting ceremony, and the French-American Chamber of Commerce's Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration. CNOS ends Twelfth Night, January 6th, 2016 when the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc parades in the French Quarter and Phunny Phorty Phellows board the St. Charles Avenue streetcar to herald the start of Carnival. Other events include: nightly excursions through the magnificent lighting display at City Park's Celebration in the Oaks; family activities including children's teas and cookie decorating; historical characters strolling and caroling in the French Quarter; holiday cruises on the Steamboat Natchez; theatrical and musical performances; special tours of private residences, bed and breakfasts, and antebellum homes dressed in holiday finery; concerts at the Ogden Museum; a Christmas parade down Canal Street; a Reindeer Run for children; and a second-line for KIPP students led by the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk's Singing Santa & the Riverwalk Jazz Band. More than 70 activities are planned, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy incredible dining, shopping, and culture. St. Louis Cathedral and St. Augustine Church Concerts Christmas New Orleans Style celebrates New Orleans' rich musical heritage with jazz musicians, gospel choirs, classical ensembles, and others performing the sounds of the season with concerts in St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square and, back by popular demand, St. Augustine Church in historic Treme.  Concerts at St. Louis Cathedral take place at 6 p.m. on December 1-2, 6-9, 13-17, and 20th.  In addition, a CNOS preview concert takes place Thursday, November 19th at 6:30 p.m. to coincide with the French Market's tree lighting at Washington Artillery Park. Another concert, the annual St. Louis Cathedral Basilica Holiday Concert takes place Sunday, December 20 at 5:30 p.m., prior to Caroling in Jackson Square. Concerts at St. Augustine take place at 4pm on Saturday, December 5, 12, and 19th.   Enjoy performances from Dillard University Choir, Bruce Daigrepont, Preservation Hall All-Stars, John Boutte, John Rankin, Don Vappie, St. Peter Claver Gospel Choir, Debbie Davis and Friends, Opera Creole, Lena Prima, Leroy Jones, Evan Christopher, and Zion Harmonizers. All concerts are free and open to the public. Reveillon Dinners Reveillon, an adaptation of a traditional Creole holiday dining custom, will be celebrated nightly in almost 50 restaurants throughout the city. Menus showcase the feasts of Christmas past, present, and future: Four Reveillon restaurants - Antoine's, Galatoire's, Commander's Palace, and Tujague's - are more than 100 years old and feature classic Creole cuisine. Contemporary Reveillon utilizes preparation techniques and products of the modern day not necessarily available to the original Creoles and can be enjoyed at Domenica,  Kingfish, Restaurant R'evolution, The Pelican Club, and many more. Reveillon menus are offered only once a year, making CNOS the only time guests can enjoy this authentic taste of New Orleans.  New participants include: The Bistreaux at Maison Dupuy, Feelings Café, Johnny Sanchez, La Provence, Tivoli & Lee (in the Hotel Modern), and Willa Jean. The Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s Center for Southern Craft & Design will host its annual holiday shopping event, the Art of Giving, on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, from 5-8 PM. If there were ever a social tsunami, last week it felt like that was it! By Sunday, I could not move and missed, for the first time, the delightful and always fun St. Catherine's Hat Day Parade. 

My exciting week started with my Round Table Luncheon Saluting the new authors and their recently released books.  It was held at  Antoine's and featured my darling friends, New Orleans authors Peggy Scott Laborde and  photographer Judi Bottoni with "New Orleans Mardi Gras Moments"; photographer Cheryl Gerber discussing “New Orleans: Life and Death in the Big Easy”; Kerri McCaffety discussing "New Orleans at Night"; author Poppy Tooker discussing "The Tujague's Cookbook: Creole Recipes and Lore in the Grand New Orleans Tradition”; and author John Pope discussing “Getting Off at Elysian Fields,” which is a collection of New Orleans people’s obituaries.Lovely photo by Frank Stansbury of the speakers and entertainers at the Round Table Luncheon saluting the New Orleans authors and their books.

Live entertainment was provided by pianist Jim Walpole and winner of Gambit's Best Actress in a Musical, Meredith Long. Judging by the positive comments that I received, everyone enjoyed the luncheon.  followed by attending the lovely Downton Abbey Hat Sale at the exquisite home of Dana Hansel of beautiful hats by Hautes Dames. Darlings, we celebrated Beaujolais Nouveau Day in a very New Orleans Style. Much-anticipated Beaujolais Nouveau traveled down the Mississippi River and arrived in New Orleans, on the Creole Queen. It was transported in grand fashion by nostalgic horse and carriage. The French Consul of France Hon. Gregor Trumel and VIPs traveled by horse carriages to the JW Marriott where the 2015 French American Chamber of Commerce, Gulf Coast Chapter (FACC-GC) Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration was waiting. On Friday, I paid my last respects to our beloved Allen Toussaint at his moving and spectacular funeral service at the Orpheum. I paid my respect to his son Reggie who I’d gotten to know when I traveled with his father and his entourage to the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Switzerland.

I could not stay because I really wanted to see the performance of the Dance Theater of Harlem at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.  It loved the presentation and found to be very informative and entertaining. I was so proud of our local students that performed along the cast of the Dance Theater of Harlem. Congratulations.

That evening, after working at Casell-Bergen gallery, I was whisked away by limousine and a case of champagne to attend Louisiana Center for Women in Government & Business' 2015 Leadership Summit and Hall of Fame Luncheon at Thibodaux. I could not attend the luncheon but I was invited to attend the Patron Party honoring LCWGB Activists at the beautiful palatial home of Drs. Raja and Gayathri Talluri.

On Saturday, after work, I transformed myself into a Silver Diva to celebrate the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation's 25th Silver Jubilee of the Azucar Ball presented by Pan American Life Insurance at the Hyatt Regency. The annual New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation's Azucar Ball - 25th Silver Jubilee presented by Pan American Life Insurance was like in the past: It was spectacular. Congratulations to the co-chairs: Maricarmen Huelga Aldana, Elizabeth Dunn Bordes and Francesca Velasco. The Galvez Cup, the highest recognition awarded by the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation was presented to three talented artists: Nicaragua-born Mario Villa; Colombia-born metal sculptor Hernan Caro and Colombia-born Luis Colmenares. Congratulations. 

The entertainment at the Patrons Party was by members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gala by Carl Mack Presents, Julio and Cesar and AsheSon. I concluded my week by paying my last respects to my darling friend, Charlotte Bass Lilly, a longtime New Orleans animal welfare advocate and the executive director of Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO). May her soul RIP. 

This week is going to be a fun one that will start today, when I attend the annual Canal Street Lighting, sponsored by the Downtown Development District at the Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel. I am really looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with my brother and a few friends at Houma House Plantations and Gardens. I cannot wait and the weather is supposed to be very nice. 

 On  Sunday, November 29 @ 5 pm:  I m looking forward to attending the  Trinity Artist Series , when it will present my darling friend talented Dr.  Quinn Peeper, pianist and Albinas Prizgintas, organist performing Grieg Concerto for piano in A minor, Albinas will play the orchestra part

With LUNA representing “Light Up NOLA Arts,” LUNA Fête is the Arts Council’s experiential community-wide event that unfolds over the course of a week; we also will “shine a light” on the great work being done by our partners, peers, and friends.

 Each year, the Arts Council will grow the scope of its international partnerships with video-mapping practitioners                  and expand the number of installations we commission and produce in New Orleans, with the intention of                               stimulating cross-sector relationships and collaboration and connecting our community to a new form of contemporary practice.

There’s no place like New Orleans for the holidays during Christmas New Orleans Style, a celebration of uniquely New Orleans holiday activities taking place throughout December.

31st Annual Christmas New Orleans Style Event Overview Reveillon Feasts, Cathedral Concerts, Festive Events A season of cheer for visitors and locals alike! New Orleans - named a "World's Best City" by Travel + Leisure readers and one of The New York Times' "52 Places to Go in 2015" - will celebrate the holidays with over 70 special events, Reveillon feasts at the city's finest restaurants, and Papa Noël hotel deals for all budgets. French Quarter Festivals, Inc. (FQFI) proudly announces details of the 31st annual Christmas New Orleans Style (CNOS), where visitors and locals are invited to "follow their joy" throughout the entire month of December.   CNOS is a collaboration between FQFI and the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation (NOTMC). Throughout December, FQFI works closely with retailers, restaurants, hotels, arts, and community organizations to produce and promote quality holiday events; the economic impact has been tremendous for the city and state.  FQFI Executive Director Marci Schramm said, "Christmas New Orleans Style has helped the city establish itself as one of the world's top holiday destinations.  It truly is a showcase of the best New Orleans has to offer, beloved by locals and the many visitors who have made it an annual tradition. In 2015, we're especially excited to bring back holiday concerts to St. Augustine Church in Treme; after several years, it's wonderful to return to this historic neighborhood."   Christmas New Orleans Style 2015 kicks off with three events on Thursday, November 19th: the first concert of the St. Louis Cathedral series (Dillard University Choir), French Market District tree lighting ceremony, and the French-American Chamber of Commerce's Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration. CNOS ends Twelfth Night, January 6th, 2016 when the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc parades in the French Quarter and Phunny Phorty Phellows board the St. Charles Avenue streetcar to herald the start of Carnival. Other events include: nightly excursions through the magnificent lighting display at City Park's Celebration in the Oaks; family activities including children's teas and cookie decorating; historical characters strolling and caroling in the French Quarter; holiday cruises on the Steamboat Natchez; theatrical and musical performances; special tours of private residences, bed and breakfasts, and antebellum homes dressed in holiday finery; concerts at the Ogden Museum; a Christmas parade down Canal Street; a Reindeer Run for children; and a second-line for KIPP students led by the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk's Singing Santa & the Riverwalk Jazz Band. More than 70 activities are planned, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy incredible dining, shopping, and culture. St. Louis Cathedral and St. Augustine Church Concerts Christmas New Orleans Style celebrates New Orleans' rich musical heritage with jazz musicians, gospel choirs, classical ensembles, and others performing the sounds of the season with concerts in St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square and, back by popular demand, St. Augustine Church in historic Treme.  Concerts at St. Louis Cathedral take place at 6 p.m. on December 1-2, 6-9, 13-17, and 20th.  In addition, a CNOS preview concert takes place Thursday, November 19th at 6:30 p.m. to coincide with the French Market's tree lighting at Washington Artillery Park. Another concert, the annual St. Louis Cathedral Basilica Holiday Concert takes place Sunday, December 20 at 5:30 p.m., prior to Caroling in Jackson Square. Concerts at St. Augustine take place at 4pm on Saturday, December 5, 12, and 19th.   Enjoy performances from Dillard University Choir, Bruce Daigrepont, Preservation Hall All-Stars, John Boutte, John Rankin, Don Vappie, St. Peter Claver Gospel Choir, Debbie Davis and Friends, Opera Creole, Lena Prima, Leroy Jones, Evan Christopher, and Zion Harmonizers. All concerts are free and open to the public. Reveillon Dinners Reveillon, an adaptation of a traditional Creole holiday dining custom, will be celebrated nightly in almost 50 restaurants throughout the city. Menus showcase the feasts of Christmas past, present, and future: Four Reveillon restaurants - Antoine's, Galatoire's, Commander's Palace, and Tujague's - are more than 100 years old and feature classic Creole cuisine. Contemporary Reveillon utilizes preparation techniques and products of the modern day not necessarily available to the original Creoles and can be enjoyed at Domenica,  Kingfish, Restaurant R'evolution, The Pelican Club, and many more. Reveillon menus are offered only once a year, making CNOS the only time guests can enjoy this authentic taste of New Orleans.  New participants include: The Bistreaux at Maison Dupuy, Feelings Café, Johnny Sanchez, La Provence, Tivoli & Lee (in the Hotel Modern), and Willa Jean.
